Nisha & Joe

August 7 and 8, 2009

One year ago, my friend Kristin Lee asked Thomas Batty and I to team up, to design the flowers arrangements and decorations for Joe and Nisha’s  wedding and rehearsal dinner.

The garden of the Mother of the Groom was the ideal setting for the rehearsal dinner on a perfect summer evening. The next day this fabulous Indian wedding took place on the  rooftop of Hotel Deluxe .

Alesia Zorn did all the stunning calligraphy.

These pictures were taken by  Kristin’s husband, Mike Duley.

The large flower balls that Kristin made welcomed the guests near the entrance

Breathtaking Begonia Carpet in Brussels

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Over 100 gardeners have laid out the pattern and a team of 80 volunteers created this breathtaking Carpet of Flowers in Brussels in August 2008.

The first Carpet of Flowers was created in 1971 as a way to promote begonias (Belgium is the world’s largest producer and exporter  of these tubers); this event takes place every 2 years. The capital’s public square is transformed into a sea of color and fragrance with a carpet of flowers. To keep the flowers fresh, fountains and sprinklers are incorporated within the pattern of the carpet.

Close to a million begonia flowers were used to create the magnificent 300 square meters carpet. The pattern is based on a midieval carpet design.

Craftsmen arrange the carpet by hand, directly into the square’s cobblestones, without any soil. Grass and tree bark were also used to provide color

Rose Petal Curtain

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Last spring, Nicole and Cabel got married at Holocene.

The ceremony took place in front of a 19′x10′ white wall; we decided that it would be nice to soften  it somehow and Nicole liked the idea of a pink rose petal curtain. It was a time consuming project, but it was well worth it and photographer Robert McNary captured it beautifully!

Flower Decorations for your Wedding Cake

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Most of the time, the florist decorates the cakes with flowers.  Only a few bakers prefer to add the flowers on themselves.

Here are some examples; whether you chose a simple or elaborate decoration, the flowers always adorn a wedding cake beautifully.

Woodland Wedding Bouquet

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Last fall I did the flowers for Lauren and Lincoln’s wedding (see Real Weddings – November 1). Early in the spring, their photographer friend Nicole Wickens (http://www.greendoorphotography.com) did a ‘day after’ session. Lauren asked if I could do a bouquet for the occasion, and she gave me the green light to do anything I wanted. This was the perfect opportunity to play with a woodland theme idea that I had wanted to try out for quite some time.

Nicole captured the details beautifully!

Ceremony Flowers

Monday, May 11th, 2009

A few weeks ago I posted  ideas to decorate archways and chuppas.  There are many other choices to decorate ceremony sites. Often tall arrangements in vases or urns are a favorite.  But you can also embellish the ceremony site with garden arrangements or wreaths or decorate candelabras.

Two bright pink wreaths, suspended from a wooden pole, framed the ceremony site for Jandi and Jesse’s wedding. The poles were secured in containers covered with moss; lots of texture decorated the base of the pole.

This garden arrangement was a fitting backdrop for the ceremony at the First Congregational Church.
