Kalanchoes

Friday, April 26th, 2013

As kalanchoes are succulents, the flowers hold up super well out of water and they are a great accent in corsages, boutonniers and flower crowns. They look very similar to bouvardia, but come in a much wider color spectrum. This delicate flower also creates a perfect accent in centerpieces.

Fritillaria!

Such a favorite!!!

Checkered lily is a bulbous perennial that is native to river flood plains in Europe where it is frequently seen growing in large colonies. Plants are somewhat dainty in appearance, featuring solitary (less frequently 2-3), drooping, 2” long, bell-shaped flowers which are checkered and veined with reddish-brown, purple, white and gray atop slender stems growing to 15” tall. Blooms in April. Linear, lance-shaped, grass-like green leaves are widely-spaced on the stems (Missouri Botanical Garden)

Hellebore!

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

Hellebore are a true treasure in winter and early spring gardens. They bloom for months and just like hydrangeas, they change colors as they mature. They also are a fabulous cut flower!

Flower Purse & Bouquets

Monday, January 21st, 2013

Last week, I posted pictures of a botanical shoe &  purse from the intimate bridalshow Art of Weddings at  the Armory earlier this month. A flower purse and different styles of bridal bouquets were also showcased. The whimsical bouquet, as well as the woodland one are constructed differently than the hand-tied. These technique allows for much more detail!

A huge thank you to Jamie Bosworth who graciously took pictures of the arrangements in her studio the following day. The props were generously donated by Vintagerentaldept.
