Monday, August 12 - Sculptural Beginnings
For Françoise, the Woodlands sprouted from a childhood memory that took a life of its own. Using foliage, bark, berries, seedpods, twigs, mushrooms, herbs and some flowers, we’ll explore how to make woodland bouquets as well as centerpieces. We’ll discuss color, texture, form, ideas and techniques.
This Wedding/Event Workshop is intensive and inspiring, providing insights and techniques developed over many years of European floral design. Classes begin with a lecture and presentation, where your input and questions are welcomed.
After a demonstration of floral techniques and mechanics, you will design your own pieces. You will hone your artistic talents, and will be encouraged to listen to your intuition and further your own vision. Classes are limited to five students to ensure valuable individual attention.
Dates: Monday June 10, Tuesday June 11, Wednesday June 12
Time: 9am til 4pm (1 hour lunch break)
Where: At Françoise’s Studio
Cost: $900 – A 50% deposit is requested to reserve your space; the balance is due May 27.

When Renée contacted me and asked if I would ship a woodland bouquet, along with corsages and boutonniers to San Francisco, it took me a while to agree to make and ship the bouquet overnight: so much could go wrong: from dealing with icy roads and delayed flights to rough hands handling the package or what if the package got lost? I am very glad that I chose to go ahead. My husband did a fabulous job packaging it all and everything arrived intact. As you can read below, Renée was thrilled.
Today I am posting pictures of a few favorite bouquets as part of a progressive post with the Chapel Designers. At the bottom of this post you will find a link to the bouquet posts of many other Chapel Designers. Enjoy!

Explore the many possibilities the woodlands have to offer and be inspired by the botanical treasures of the Pacific Northwest! Françoise’s absolute love for this style of arrangement stems from her time spent as a child in Switzerland. Foraging for a piece of wood or bark and moss and adding some wildflowers, she would make arrangements for her Mother while on summer hikes with her family in the Alps. Her woodland fairy creations have since bloomed into unique centerpieces and bouquets using the foliage of the Northwest as her muse. Detail is paramount in these layered, intricate creations. Gather ideas to express your creativity and learn to work with woodland materials found in nature!

While many of my more intricate works have relied on floral foam to hold them in place, this workshop will explore eco-friendly ways to create exquisite designs that do not use oasis. It has been a challenge to invent new ways to secure the plant material, and results may differ somewhat from designs previously seen on my blog and website, but I believe it is worthwhile. My thanks to the Seattle Wholesale Growers Market for hosting the event and Debra Prinzing for organizing it and convincing me that students really care as much about the environment as they do about the designs. Looking forward to seeing you there!

For Françoise, the Woodlands sprouted from a childhood memory that took a life of its own. A piece of bark, a log, driftwood, a wooden disk, branches, and root balls can all become bases of the unique structures we will create. Learn to use moss and bark to cover containers that serve as the foundation for centerpieces or larger arrangements. We’ll discuss color, texture, form, ideas and techniques.
