Fundraiser for the Literary Arts at the Portland Art Museum

Last this summer I had the honor to do the designs for the annual fundraiser for Literary Arts  at the Portland Art Museum. I was so delighted that they invited me again! How to incorporate something that was related to books was once more an interesting and fun process. And when clients give you complete creative license, it makes it even better!

Thank you Theresa Bear for the beautiful photography!

Book pages were stretched in a couple of embroidery hoops, which were secured to an altered wooden box and decorated with hops, mini spider plants, fennel, rose hips, succulents, purple cherry tomatoes, seedpods of dogwood and queen Anne’s lace, coxcomb, mood moss and aspidistra leaves.

A long time ago a friend gifted me this beautiful paper; I re-purposed it as the cover of this ‘botanical book’ and decorated it with borage, verbena, caryopteris, succulents, passion vine and dingo ferns.

I folded hundreds of pages of an old book to create fans, which I incorporated in the centerpieces.

For the large arrangement I decorated boxes with covers and pages of books; as the logo of this event was designed with bright colors, I made this ombre design featuring all the colors of the rainbow.
