Haute Couture Botanique Show

Last fall, photographer Ted Mishima and I decided to do a  show together. We have been collaborating for 4 years on botanical couture photo shoots and we thought it would be fun to showcase his photography and have some models who would showcase botanical headpieces, jewelry, purses and shoes.

Mount Burns, owner of St John’s Coffee Roasters, generously offered to host the event at his coffee shop and Nyki Burns contacted several of her friends asking if they would model.

The collaboration was fantastic! The show was very well attended and we all had a blast that evening.

As always,Ted captured great images:

Gnarled Root Structure with Spring Flowers

A woodland arrangement that I made for a memorial service today. It was several years ago that I bought this gnarled root structure and it was simply perfect for this occasion.

Botanical Shoe Embellished with Orchids and Texture

Fallopia foliage covered the outside of this stiletto, while black begonia leaves were glued on the inside. A  few orchids as well as snippets of green blackberries, succulents, kangoroo paws, dill, sedum, penstemon seedpods and grass enhanced the rim of the shoe as well as the heel.

You will learn to make your own fairy tale shoe, as well as stunning  purses, jewelry and headpieces during the 2 day Botanical Couture workshop at Vinewood Plantation, near Atlanta on April 22 & 23.

Woodland with Fritillaria

Last week the first fritillaria maleagris plants of the season were available at the flower market.  Every year I buy several flats from Northwest Fresh, as no one sells these treasures as cut flowers. They are a great choice for woodland arrangements.

Thank you Ted Mishima for these beautiful images! A piece of wood served as container and was decorated with mossy branches, staghorn fern, succulents, tillandsias, ferns, mushrooms, other textures and a few stems of fritillarias.

Join us for a 3 day woodland workshop in the studio in Portland on February 16-18 and learn how to use wooden pieces as containers and much more. For more information or to register, click here.
