Hellebore!

The magical  hellebores have been blloming in the garden for a couple of months now . This exquisite winter flowering plant is such a treasure, especially at this time of the year… and it is such a treat that they bloom for months. What we actually think of as the flower petals are the sepals. Hellebores are difficult to come by at the flower market, so I’ve planted a lot of them in the garden. Once that they have hardened off, they do really well as a cut flowers, as well in vase arrangements as in foam. Just like hydrangeas, they change color as they harden off.

More Whimsical Bouquets

A few more examples of whimsical bouquets!

The base can be covered with feathers, striking foliage like begonia leaves or kale, petals, or whatever strikes your fancy. To disguise the handle you can glue on  feathers or foliage as well and if you like those can be super-imposed with pearls, bullion wire etc…

Whimsical Bouquets

Inspired by the work of British designer Claire Cowling several years ago, I started to make these fun whimsical bouquets. I found someone who could make the small wire cages, which are an intrinsic part of the design.

First I spray paint the cage, then attach it to a bouquet holder and decorate it as well as the handle and the bottom of the holder. All intricate detail work, but so much fun! Once this part is done, the flowers are carefully added. I like to give it an effect of a ‘bird’s nest ‘, but some students have definitely gone in different directions. As always, the sky is the limit!

Cyclamen

I love cyclamen: the foliage is perfect for corsages and boutonniers, to create wonderful texture in any arrangement or to cover containers or purses. The flowers are so delicate and unique and are perfect choices in bouquets, flower purses and woodland centerpieces!
