Workshop in Orinda, CA

Here are some pictures of last week’s workshop  in the Bay Area. Thank you Chris Stoneberg, with Blooms by You, for hosting the classes in your beautiful studio and for taking these great pictures! It was a delight to share ideas and mechanics with you, Karen and Sheryl.

Botanical Masks and Headpieces

A couple of months ago, Alicia with Flirty Fleurs suggested that a few of us would gather and have a ‘flower play date’. Everyone would bring some bunches of flowers and texture.  Peggy and Carol, Liz, Lora, Annie and Alicia came to the studio on a brilliant fall morning and we spent the day making masks, headpieces and other arrangements.  We all had a blast and plan on doing this again!

Thank you Alicia for taking these great pictures! And thank you Peggy for making a wonderful lunch!

Botanical Wire Shoes

Selection of botanical wire shoes decorated with succulents, bromeliad leaves, ferns, tillandsias, orchids, seedpods and other textures. These are super fun to make; they are great centerpieces for bistro tables – or place several on a mantle or a long dinner table!

Rose Hill Flower Farm

Elizabeth Bryant is the organic flower grower extraordinaire at Rose Hill Flower Farm in West Linn. She came to visit in the studio last fall and we hit it off right away! I had prepared a long list of favorite plants and flowers and mentioned that it would be fantastic if she would be interested in growing some of them. This past season I was absolutely thrilled to work with the selection that she delivered weekly at the studio. We both are so passionate about our work and we can talk endlessly about flowers and plants. I was delighted to visit her farm this summer.
Here is a sample of her treasures: salpiglossis, nicotiana, several varieties of clematis, love-in-a-puff, cleome, ageratum, penstemon, salvia, abuliton, gloriosa lilies, chocolate cosmos,  allium, cerinthe, toadlilies, persian shield, nigella, many herbs and lots of fantastic texture… I cannot wait to see what she has in store for next year!

Log Arrangement with Porcelaine Berries

When Bethany, co-owner of Charles Little – a wonderful flower farm in the Eugene area – asked if I could make an arrangement for her booth at the design show at the Portland Flower Market last week,  I wanted to incorporate the fabulous porcelain berries that she grows.

Hops

Hops is so fantastic to decorate archways! Using snippets in bouquets and centerpieces adds great texture. Wish that this crop would be available much longer than in late summer.
