Flower Crowns

‘Klein maar fijn” my grandmother often said. It means: “Small but special” . She liked to remind us kids that bigger didn’t mean better.

Do I ever feel that way about flowers! Small delicate blooms  are definitely favorites. These small treasures are perfect to make detailed flower crowns for flower girls or brides alike.

Ariel & Aron

Ariel and Aron were married on March 21, 2010 at the Forestry Center. Her woodland bouquet and the woodland centerpieces were perfect choices for this site.

Lilacs!

Another favorite! Especially the deep purple ones. Like most woody stems, they often have a difficult time hydrating. The best remedy is to use ‘Quick Dip’: pour about 1″ in a small plastic container; after re-cutting the stems, dip them for a few seconds in this product, which magically helps flowers hydrate much more easily. The lilacs will last up to a week, in a vase or foam arrangement.

Different and Fun!

Here is a fun idea for an arrangement for a long table, preferably 4-5′ wide.  Inspired by a picture that I had seen in a book, I asked Martin to create a long, narrow metal stand, that was about 10″ tall. This way the arrangement stays below eye level and doesn’t  impede conversation across the table. Votive candles also could be incorporated amongst the flowers.

The clematis from the garden was a perfect addition to the viburnum, lilacs, dogwood, hellebore and sweetpeas.

Thank you Linda, from Barclay Event Rentals, for providing the table and linens!
