Woodland with Fritillaria

Last week the first fritillaria maleagris plants of the season were available at the flower market.  Every year I buy several flats from Northwest Fresh, as no one sells these treasures as cut flowers. They are a great choice for woodland arrangements.

Thank you Ted Mishima for these beautiful images! A piece of wood served as container and was decorated with mossy branches, staghorn fern, succulents, tillandsias, ferns, mushrooms, other textures and a few stems of fritillarias.

Join us for a 3 day woodland workshop in the studio in Portland on February 16-18 and learn how to use wooden pieces as containers and much more. For more information or to register, click here.

Botanical Shoe and Purse with Phalaenopsis and Texture

The miniature phalaenopsis were the perfect long lasting flower to complement all the textures.

The sides of the shoe were covered with club moss, the sole with cyclamen and the heel with dreacena  and cyclamen leaves – succulent leaves covered the inside of the shoe.

The purse was decorated with succulents, hellebore, hypericum viburnum and sea star fern.

Nacre – Spring Issue

It was such a thrill when Nacre, a beautiful French flower magazine, contacted me to request images for their spring issue. And it was such a delightful surprise when they chose this image of a botanical headpiece for the cover . Thank you Sarah Pardini for modeling and Ted Mishima for the wonderful image!

Structural Woodland Arrangement

Yesterday I posted pictures of one of the arrangements that Oregon Bride Magazine  had ordered for their booth for the Portland Bridal Show this weekend.

The  structural arrangement that we created was inspired by the design on the cover of the brilliant book: Botanical Art: For Your Eyes Only, by Jo Jarvis and Sarah Horne. Manzanita branches were the support for the ‘chandelier’ part of the structure; and a gnarly old branch was perfect for the vertical element.

Textured Vase with Blooming Branches

Oregon Bride Magazine ordered a couple of large arrangements for their booth for the Portland Bridal Show this weekend. It is such a delight when clients  give us carte blanche; thank you Heather!

For years I have decorated endless numbers of small containers with textures, but never a large vessel. I bought the largest French bucket that I could find and covered it with moss. And then I glued hundreds of succulents, berries and blossoms. Patience definitely was a big part of this project…The intricacy of the vessel was off-set by a large bunch of blooming honeysuckle branches. Blooming branches were a bit tricky to come by, but luckily Glenwood Farms had these fabulous bunches. Photographer Ted Mishima came by yesterday to capture these beautiful images. We were lucky that the sun decided to be part of the experience.
